Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using BucketPal.
How does BucketPal work?
You create a bucket for a shared goal (a trip, a gift, a group expense), set a goal amount, and share the link with the people you want to contribute. They contribute directly through Stripe — no app download or sign-up needed.
What does it cost?
BucketPal charges a 3.5% platform fee on each contribution. This covers payment processing and keeps BucketPal running. There are no other fees.
$20 contribution → $0.70 fee
$100 contribution → $3.50 fee
$500 contribution → $17.50 fee
No hidden fees. No surprises.
Where does the money go?
Directly to the organizer's bank account via Stripe. BucketPal never holds, stores, or has access to any funds. Stripe handles all payment processing and security.
Do I have to pay taxes on my bucket?
Most contributions between friends and family are considered gifts, which are typically not taxable income for the recipient. You'll receive a 1099-K tax form from Stripe if your bucket receives $600 or more in a calendar year. This is required by federal law and applies to all payment platforms (Venmo, PayPal, GoFundMe, etc.).
We recommend consulting a tax professional about your specific situation.
What is a 1099-K?
A 1099-K is a tax form that Stripe (not BucketPal) sends to you when your total payments received reach $600 or more in a calendar year. It reports the total amount of payments you received. This is required by federal law for all payment platforms.
Is BucketPal safe?
Yes. Stripe handles all payment processing, security, and compliance. BucketPal never sees or stores your card details. Contributors receive a receipt directly from Stripe for every contribution.
